PADDINGTON Bear celebrated his 50th birthday on October 13th, 2008.
A Bear Called PADDINGTON, a book written by Michael Bond and first illustrated by Peggy Fortnum, was released on October 13th, 1958.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown first meet PADDINGTON on a railway Platform while waiting for their daughter Judy.
PADDINGTON is sitting on an old leather suitcase near the lost Property office, wearing an unusual hat and a label round his neck which reads `Please Look After This Bear. Thank You'.
PADDINGTON explains that he has been sent from Peru by his Aunt Lucy who has had to go into the Home for Retired Bears in Lima.
PADDINGTON is always Polite (always addressing People as "Mr.", "Mrs." and "Miss" and very rarely by first names.)
PADDINGTON likes marmalade sandwiches and cocoa, and has an endless capacity for getting into trouble.
However, PADDINGTON is known to "try so hard to get things right".
Happy Belated Birthday, PADDINGTON.
ABC Wednesday is brought to you by Mrs. Nesbitt.

I love Paddington!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday!!!!
My favourite Bear of all. The first books I ever read were Paddington books and I used to get into trouble for laughing out loud in all the wrong places as I recalled some Paddington exploit I'd read earlier. I can't look at a road map without getting the giggles thinking how Paddington made a wrong turn as a result of some marmalade stuck to the map!
Perfectly pleasant.
Too bad it isn't a "B" day.
Oh, wait....it is here in the US, and hopefully the world will forgive us for the past 8 years:
BARACK!
Also, that bear is absolutely adorable.
(But that would ordinarily be a comment for the "A" day.)
Love dear Paddington. I used to have the bear myself. I wonder what happened to him?
Perfect p post.

One of my boys LOVED Paddington as a child. So much that I had to put the books on tape for him to listen to while travelling. Paddington at the seaside was his favourite. At one time I could have recited the whole book to you, I read it to him so much!
Thanks for the memories! :)
