Facial Creams and Lotions

A husband and wife are shopping at the market when the man picks up a case of beer and sticks it into their cart.
*
“What do you think you're doing?” asks the wife.
*
"They're on sale, only $25 for a case,” he says.
*
“Put them back. We can't afford it,” says the wife and so they carry on shopping.
*
A few aisles later the woman picks up a $50 bottle of facial lotion and places it into the cart.
*
“What do you think you're doing?” asks the man.
*
“It's my facial lotion. It makes me look beautiful,” she says.
*
The man replies, “So do 24 bottles of beer and they’re half the price!”
*
*
*
If any of you women are like me, you have many jars and bottles of facial creams and lotions sitting on your bathroom counter that you have bought because you believed all the hype that was promoted about them.
*
"Purchase *X* brand and your wrinkles will disappear, *Y* brand promises to give you back the youthful skin you used to have" etc. etc. ad nauseum.
*
Who to believe and is it all just a marketing ploy?
*
Well I have to admit that I am someone who used to believe in all the hype and marketing that the cosmetics industry was targetting to us women of a *certain age*.
And then I read Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me by Paula Begoun .
*
This book is an eye-opener and should be considered as a *MUST READ* for every woman who has spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on any *miracle facial creams or lotions.*
*
I can honestly recommend either purchasing this book or borrowing it from your local library before you spend another dollar on the latest *miracle cream or lotion.*

Not exactly about creams and lotions, though I've felt for years that the cheap cosmetics weren't that much different from the expensive ones.....

No this is to tell you that I've dedicated a poem to you and it will be on my Blog tomorrow. I hope you like it.

Pretty good joke.
I guess I never spent a lot on creams and lotions. I always felt that not getting too much sun and trying to eat right and drink water was mostly what I need to do for my skin. Or maybe that was my lazy way of saying I dont want to fool with creams and lotions. LOL

Yes, hope does spring eternal even at my advanced age. I'm a sucker for anything that promises wrinkle or fat reduction. All you have to do is buy the over-priced product and the pounds will drop or your skin will return to your baby years. Humpf! I've had enough! I'm going out and picking up that book. Thanks!

I never spent a lot of money on creams and lotions, but I am always looking for something to help me age slower. My friends son is a dermatologist and he says that the Olay products are as good as any for keeping skin moist and protected from the sun and they don't cost an arma and a leg!

Have to admit I've never had the time nor money to bother about cosmetics but I'm willing to ignore the wrinkles as and when they appear.
Actually, I culd never see to put make up on properly as a teenager (due to being very short sighted)and the resulting mishaps put me off for life!
My mum always used Oil of Ulay (which has become Olay I believe) but she didn't use make-up either.
My daughter is well and truly into face creams etc so I'll get her to read the book.

I have always bought the cheaper cosmetics and lotions and have never been disappointed. I have come to a point, however, when I do splurge on good shampoo and condition because my perimenopausal hair tends to coil and frizz and do unnatural things that suave or generic/lower end shampoo simply cannot handle. actually i am not sure the higher end/cost products can handle it either, but i tell myself they can....

Loved the joke. Oh yeah - hooked on creams and lotions, especially the really nice smelly ones (peach, apricot, lemon-verbena, vanilla-jasmine, spicy-orange...)
I got a skin reaction to something or other a while ago, and now use plain, old olive oil on my face. Works well!
