Smashing Age Stereotypes

I received this in an email from a great friend and I wanted to share it with all of you.

AGE STEREOTYPES
*
*
We have all heard them and if you still haven’t you soon will.
What I am talking about is all the clichés that are out there in society about aging.
*
Well I’m ready to smash them, are you?
*
*

Cliché: Over the hill
Stereotype slasher: Yeah, I’m over the hill – because I ran there in my last 10k race.
*
Cliché: Past her prime
Stereotype slasher: If that’s true, how is it I’ve got a fantastic career, a great social life and I’m happier with my looks than I've ever been?
*
Cliché: Age-appropriate dressing
Stereotype slasher: I prefer “me-appropriate” dressing. Maybe it’s time to dress as we please.
*
Cliché: Mature woman
Stereotype slasher: When I’m with my best friends, we don’t act the least bit mature. We giggle like teenagers and have a fantastic time.
*
Cliché: Woman of a certain age
Stereotype slasher: Oh, I’m certain all right – certain that I won’t put up with guff from anyone!
*
Cliché: Old and lonely
Stereotype slasher: Those words just aren’t in my vocabulary. I am kind, loved, happy, active and valued.
*
Cliché: Older faces and bodies aren’t sexy
Stereotype slasher: That’s what you think! Just ask my husband.
*
Cliché: 60 is the new 50
Stereotype slasher: Now that’s one cliché that I like!
*
This is not about anti-aging. This is about taking a fresh attitude toward aging.
I’m over 60, I embrace life with boundless vitality, I have so much wisdom to share and I’m ready to celebrate all my amazing experiences.
*
ARE YOU?

Great come backs! You are only as old as you act and feel... I have friends that are in their early 40's that act like they are 1 foot in the grave already. Not me - I'm a goofball most of the time :)

I love the one that says 60 is the new 50. I too am over 60 and I totally embrace my new life. I say Life Is Good.

its not that I am an "old dude" its a fact that I am not a "young dude"---kids are not my favorite people---note even when I was one myself.

Well, that's great encouragement to enjoy life whatever your age!

Oh yes, I so agree! Just wish I could do without the aches and pains though.

Thanks for your kind words on Wednesday.

Excellent. We're here for a good time, not a long time, so we must wring every last drop of life out of each and every day!

Ta for visiting today. We stopped for tea at Niagara-On-The-Lake en route home and you are right, it's a lovely little town.

No matter what the driver's license may say, I will always be a teenager or, at most, a young 20-something. Laughing and playing until the end, and not going down without a fight. (And the driver's license hasn't seen those numbers in decades, but don't tell my brain.)

It is all in The Attitude. Never give up and never give in.

Right on! And I agree with chesapeake bay too!
And I read in CARP magazine (canadian association of retired persons) that age is unfair to men because - as youths they have 4 supple limbs and 1 stiff member. Once reaching a certain age - it's reversed. LOL!

I loved those.

I did a very unscientific questionnaire on-line last year, when I was 76, and it turned out that my biological age was 68. So, scientific or not, that's how old I now consider myself! I was immediately given eight more years of life. Fantastic! My mother was great till 90 (she died at 97) so I think I have a good chance. By the way I've recited the 'bear' poem I wrote for you at several venues and everybody loves the story.
