Toblerone

About ten days ago Bob T Bear (esq.) posted about his trip to Canterbeary (sic) and his encounters with Bishop bears who hide Toblerone chocolate bars in their mitered hats.
I promised Bob that I would write a post about Toblerone chocolate and its hidden significance to bears.
*
So now I will present a brief history of chocolate, Toblerone and possibly bears.
*
The Maya first began farming the first cocoa plantations in the Yucatan peninsula.
The Mayan god of the cacao plant was Chak el Chuah.
On his fourth journey to America, Christopher Columbus landed in Nicaragua and became the first European acquainted with cocoa.
Lucky Chris!!
*
In 1528, Hernado Cortéz brought to Europe the first cocoa and the equipment needed to prepare it.
In 1657, a Frenchman opened the first chocolate store in London, England.
In 1692, Louis XIV issued an edict levying taxes on chocolate.
All together now, "Boo Louis!"
*
In 1875, a Swiss man, Daniel Peter, introduces the first milk chocolate to the market.
Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray!
*
In 1908, Toblerone is born. Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann develop a unique chocolate, TOBLERONE. Thereafter, Toblerone with its special recipe, triangular shape and unmistakable Toblerone logo, becomes the Swiss chocolate par excellence.
*
In 2000, a smooth redesign of the packaging takes place and the Matterhorn is shown on the package design.
On the Matterhorn, there is something hidden.
Can you see it?

Toberone was my late mothers very favourite chocolate, I buy a bar now for myself now on her birthday & @ Christmas.

It's a bear on the bar, and I never noticed it before now.

I'm going to have to link you as I keep forgeting to visit.

Hey! I would never have noticed that.

Also, I was a Latin American studies major in college and knew the importance of cacao/cocoa, but of course I've forgotten everything I learned. Glad to have my memory refreshed here. I'm always learning (or in my case re-learning) something new here!

I love Toblerone! And I never noticed the bear before now. Do you think it was intentional?

Very informative. Thanks for sharing : ). I love when I read a blog and learn something new. I have never had a toblerone bar before, but I think I should.

Bear, your comment on my post about the CFL made me smile with delight. I am a huge fan and was a season ticket holder for over 22 years.
My son is not much a football fan, not much of a sport fan of any sort, so I am delighted to watch football at all with him.
He, sadly, like most of kids his age, knows very little about the teams and players in our great little league up here.
The land of hype of glory and Nintendo licensed games wins the battle of their minds.
Thanks for the smile.

You're always teaching me something. Thanks for the history lesson on one of my favorite subjects! I never would have seen the bear until you pointed it out.

Dang! I've never noticed that bear before - tho it also kinda looks like a pig with wings...well if you look at it sideways!

Toblerone - we used to split them on the gondola up the Vermont ski slopes. Certainly gave us great energy!

Becky, it's pronounced TOE-BLUH-ROWN with a very slight accent on the first syllable. And it's delicious!

Oh my gods!!! I've never noticed this before!! I'm a huge fan of Toblerone (you know, I'm addicted to chocolate...) since childhood, but never seen this little detail!

Thanks for the cool, informative post!
