Thinking About My Oddities

Last week Chesapeake Bay Woman and then yesterday Midlife Slices™ asked me to list 6-7 oddities about myself. I promised them I would think about my oddities and list them here on my blog.

*
So in no particular order, here are the things that people will say, "You are odd, Bear!"
*
1. I really like Mimes. At one point in my life, I wanted to open a restaurant in Québec City that would have Mimes as waiters. I had even decided what the decor would be (all black and white) and that no one other than the customers would speak. Imagine my chagrin when I found out that I am possibly the only person in the world who actually finds Mimes humourous. Oh well, another one of my brilliant ideas goes bust.
*
2. The one and only time I ever paralleled parked was the day many, many years ago when I took my driver's test. I will park three blocks away from where I have to be, to avoid parallel parking.
*
3. Keeping with the driving theme, I always try to never turn left unless at a light with an advanced green signal. My children make fun of me--oh well.
*
4. I do not turn on a radio--EVER. Not in the car or at home. I prefer silence rather than having a radio blaring in the background. Occasionally, I will listen to some tunes on my CD player but that is maybe 2 to 3 times a year.
*
5. I have to read books lying down. I don't know why but I have always done this. Lying in bed or on the couch, that is the way that I read.
*
6. I can not fall asleep if the sheets or blankets are tucked in at the foot of the bed. The FIRST thing I do when I go to a hotel is untuck the sheets even before removing the bedspread. Hotel maids hate me but then I tip well, so deal with it, is my theory.
*
7. Bonus oddity about myself. I have never owned a dress or a blouse with a patterned fabric. Monochrome only. I do not like patterned fabric for dresses or blouses. This years' fashions are just not my style. I can wait. This patterned fabric craze will soon be over (hopefully.)

While I don't know how well that kind of restaurant would fare, I too love mimes. Remember Marcel Marceau? I LOVED watching him! And tho I have owned patterned shirts, I too am very much a monochrome girl.

Oh Mrs Bear . .can't STAND mimes. Scary as clowns. I LOVE being tightly tucked in so that monster under the bed doesn't grab my left toe. Can't live in a room without music but . . OK I do avoid parallel parking and flowery fabrics. DEFINITELY the monocrhome queen! Thanks for the tidbits. I love learning more about you!

I love mimes! How can anyone hate Marcel Marceau? He was brilliant. I'm mostly monochromatic -- usually in black. And in 55 alive -- the driving class for elders -- they teach that one should only make right hand turns. And yeah, I hate parallel parking.

Oh my, you are an odd Mrs. Bear. LOL I have to say the only thing I can relate to is the parallel parking and I say AMEN to parking three blocks away to avoid. :)

These are fascinating.

I never would have guessed you to be a mime-loving, music hating, pattern- fearing Bear.

That whole parallel parking thing speaks to me loud and clear. It's way too much pressure, especially if there are cars behind you. And I avoid left turns at all costs.

I think you should do one of these each week - if not 7 things, then just a couple. These are really good.

I might have become a great Mime, except I could never get out of the box (lol) Left turns are the cause of most accidents, and I'm all for the sheets being untucked at nights, being 6'2" I frequently kick the sheets untucked before I can relax and go to sleep.

I have never parallel parked. Not even in my driver's test 275 years ago. And I have the same thing about left turns. But music? Must always have the radio on in the car.

Who is to say what is odd. Odd is different than me, which makes everyone odd. Love the picture. :)

Odd is good, Bear, lordy how boring it would be if we were all the same, still, you are not really odd...well, except for the mimes, and the turning left and paralell parking, and the monochrome thing.
A bit eccentric, perhaps, but then I waited all my life to be eccentric...met a few of 'em and loved them dearly. Maybe I'll sound out the family for a few of mine...you see, you're not that odd...at least you know what your odd things are.

I dont listen to the radio either .. when I must have music, I have my iPod ... and I too pull the 'hospital cornered' sheets out.. I do not like my feet covered when I sleep ...

So you see other than the mine thing I dont think you are odd...

I won't sleep in a bed with the sheets un-tucked....LOL. My tootsies get cold!

As to patterned fabric; I have very little of it nowadays, and I really don't like all the 60's and 70's prints that are in fashion now.

I never thought about it, but I don't have a single print in my wardrobe. I guess I am monochromatic too.

Mime's are not my thing, but I did love Marcel Marceau.

I can certainly relate to the parallel parking thing. I will park on the next street to avoid it. Walking is good, anyway!

Music? I love music and will listen to it all day. If the radio is playing something awful, I'll switch stations or put a CD on the player.

This was SO interesting! : ). I like to have the bottom sheets untucked also. I wrap them around me feet. It's wierd : ). Some might even say odd!

Very interesting fact, Bear! You could work for UPS. I'm told they have a new policy where they are not supposed to turn left but turn right and go around the block instead. Oh and if we take a drive together, you won't need the radio. I'll sing. So much for your peaceful silence, huh? You'll love it!

My husband and I do #6 all the time too! You must have developed some strong arms holding up those books while you are lying down :0)
I like quiet myself...
Have a wonderful rest of the week...

That was very interesting. I like Marcel Marceau but am not sure I'd want Mimes as waiters.
Loved your previous post too. If I manage to do just half those things I'll be happy.

Oddly comforting to know that there are others with less ordinary quirks.
