Shower and Shampoo

Today I have the dressing and staples removed from my
shoulder after the July 21st Surgery.
*
*
*
*
It has been a long ten days recuperating but I am not taking as many pain pills now as I had at the beginning so I guess I'm having less pain. Which is good.
*
*
*
*
Trying to just walk around the house with the Polar Cub has been very difficult so needless to say all I have been doing is a whole lot of sitting.
*
I can now fall asleep with only four pillows propped on the bed instead of the eight that I was using to sit up in the bed.
*
The best thing though that is going to happen IMMEDIATELY after I get home is the shampoo and shower that I have planned.
*
Ted E went shopping and I now have a good supply of my favourite bath and shower products.
*
My preferred face soap is Dove - pro•age - Beauty Bar and for the body wash I use Dove- pro•age - Beauty Body Wash.
*
*
I started using the Dove pro.age products about a year ago.
They have a lovely scent and have been specifically formulated for women my age.
*
But the main reason I started to use these products is because the company uses mature women in their advertising campaigns. Real women just like you and me.
*
I despise a company advertising a product that is supposed to appeal to mature women and having a 22 or 23 year old model in the ad campaign.
*
Kudos to the Dove company for realizing that we women are not stupid.
We have mirrors and know that we look and are different than when we were younger.
Too bad so many other companies do not understand.
*
This afternoon if your water pressure is too low, blame it all on me.
I am planning on taking a LONG shower ALL afternoon .

Menopause Moment

On her blog , femail doc from Menopause Moments confesses to menopause moments.
*
*
*
I figure if she is brave enough to BEAR it all to the blogosphere, then I should also.
*
*
*
One morning as I was brushing my teeth, I looked up in the bathroom mirror.
*
What I saw was that I was using Ted E’s toothbrush.
*
His is blue and mine is green, no reason whatsoever for the confusion.
*
I blamed it on my early morning rising and convinced myself that was the cause.
*
I went out shopping that afternoon and bought new green and blue toothbrushes for the two of us.
*
Three days later I did the same thing all over again.
*
I now have a large stock of green and blue toothbrushes (just in case.)
*
*
And this is our little secret because I never told Ted E.

Twins-Double Delight

Yesterday, bobbie from Almost There
gave me an award.
*
This is a twin award: one called "You Make Me Smile" and the other "Super Commenter."
*
*
bobbie's insightful and artistic blog is a * must read * that I highly recommend visiting. Her commitment to making this world better "one t-shirt at a time" is inspiring.
*
I thank you, bobbie and I humbly accept this award.
*
It is a twin double delight and I proudly display this award on my left sidebar.
*
Now I would like to pass this twin award on to five people whom I feel deserve it.
*
Chesapeake Bay Woman from Life in Mathews is a delight to read.
If you haven't visited her blog yet, you really are missing out on a great deal of fun.
*
Mental P Mama from The Mental Pause Chronicles always has interesting and fun quizzes for us. Her comments section is fun to read also.
*
Daryl from out & about in new york city is a very creative photographer with a marvelous sense of humour. Her photos take us on tours around the city, across the country and into her home.
*
Wendy from COPD - Caregiving is NOT for Wimps!
Her blog tells us of the challenges she is facing with her spouse's COPD. I think her latest challenge, to have me contribute poetry on her blog comments, is possibly her largest though.
*
And last but not least is JeanMac from Welcome to our World.
This is one very special lady who is caring for her husband at home with compassion and bravery. Her tenderness shines through in her blogs and in her comments.
*
Please take the time to visit the blogs of these five beautiful women.
Ladies, you can pick up your twin award by scrolling down on my left sidebar.

Tagged #2

This past Wednesday, Kay from Kay's Thinking Cap tagged me with a Meme.
*
She had been tagged by Gary from Threescore Plus Ten and she passed it on to me.
*
I promised her once I was feeling a bit better from my surgery that I would give her my answers to the questions.
*
I only learned about the word Meme when I started blogging this past March.
*
Being the inquisitive type of person that I am, I had to find out exactly what a Meme is and how it got started.
*
*
From Wiktionary the definition of meme is:
"Any unit of cultural information, such as a practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.
The word meme first came into popular use with the publication of Richard Dawkins' book “The Selfish Gene” in 1976."
*
1976!!! How did I miss that one.
*
Here are my answers to Gary and Kay’s questions:
*
*
1. What is your favourite quotable line from a movie?
*
Mine are 6 lines from the movie “Pretty Woman.”
*
Shop assistant: ” Hello, can I help you?”
Vivian: ” I was in here yesterday, you wouldn't wait on me.”
Shop assistant: ” Oh.”
Vivian: “You people work on commission, right?”
Shop assistant: “Yeah.”
Vivian: “Big mistake. Big. Huge. I have to go shopping now.”
*
*
2. Who is the most famous person you have spoken to?
*
No one, nada, nobody, zilch.
What can I say, I am a boring Canadian.
*
*
3. How many bags/boxes of Potato Chips are consumed at your place in a month?
*
Less than one.
*
*
4. Who is your all time favorite Cartoon Character?
*
Donald Duck. What can I say, I'm a sucker for his voice.
When I was young, teenage boys could REALLY impress me by talking in a Donald Duck voice.
I know, how pathetic is that.
*
*
5. What foreign food dish do you prepare from scratch and serve?
*
I don’t cook. If I am invited to a pot luck dinner, I always bring the pickle tray.
Ted E, on the other hand, will spend days researching and experimenting with recipes.
*
*
6. What is your favorite section of the Supermarket?
*
The condiments aisle. (See above.)
*
*
7. What was your high school team’s mascot and what were the school's colours?
*
We didn't have a mascot but the school colours were green and gold.
*
*
I am not going to tag anyone specifically but if you want to do the Meme on your blog, leave a comment here and I will be sure to check it out.

Post-Surgery

Originally, I was to have Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff repair early on Monday morning.
*
That day my orthopaedic surgeon also found that I had an Impingement of the Shoulder.
*
So I had a subacromial decompression also.
*
*
That procedure can be seen here.
*
*
*
They were both out-patient operations, so I was able to go home early Monday evening.
*
I am wearing a sling on the arm and using Polar Care cold therapy.
*
The doctor said to continue taking the Percocet every four hours for pain relief.
*
I am to have the dressings removed next week and in two weeks time will be told when I can start physiotherapy again.
*
Sleeping is difficult because the only way I am partially comfortable is to be sitting up.
*
But the most difficult thing is no showers until the dressings are removed next week!
*
Thank you to everyone for your kind get well wishes.

Surgery

Today I am having surgery on my shoulder.
*
This is to repair the damage to the Rotator Cuff from when I had my accident.
*
When I fell, I dislocated the shoulder, broke the Humerus (the upper section near the shoulder) and had a complete Rotator Cuff Tear.
*
I have been going to physiotherapy for months and using a TENS unit daily.
*
I also have been taking a narcotic to help deal with the pain but I still have limited range of motion in the arm and do not want to rely on drugs as a pain reliever forever.
*
My orthopaedic surgeon has told me that he can not guarantee 100% full range of motion for the arm but that he will give me back quality of life; that is, no more or limited pain.
*
Sounds good enough for me.
*
So my blogging friends I will be out of commission for a few days, but with the magic of Blogger I have pre-posted my ABC Wednesday post.
*
How could I miss the start of round three at Mrs. Nesbitt's place.

Questions about Canada

Now that Vancouver has won the chance to host the 2010 Winter Olympics, these are some questions people the world over are asking!
*
*
*
*
*
Believe it or not these questions about Canada were posted on an International Tourism Website.
*
*
Obviously the answers are a joke but the questions were really asked.
*
*
Q: I have never seen it warm on Canadian TV, so how do the plants grow? (England )
A. We import all plants fully grown and then just sit around and watch them die.
*
Q: Will I be able to see Polar Bears in the street? (USA )
A: Depends on how much you've been drinking.
*
Q: I want to walk from Vancouver to Toronto can I follow the Railroad tracks? (Sweden )
A: Sure, it's only Four thousand miles, take lots of water.
*
Q: Is it safe to run around in the bushes in Canada ? (Sweden )
A: So it's true what they say about Swedes.
*
Q: It is imperative that I find the names and addresses of places to contact for a stuffed Beaver. (Italy )
A: Let's not touch this one.
*
Q: Are there any ATM's (cash machines) in Canada? Can you send me a list of them in Toronto , Vancouver , Edmonton and Halifax ? (England )
A: What did your last slave die of?
*
Q: Can you give me some information about hippo racing in Canada ? (USA )
A: A-fri-ca is the big triangle shaped continent south of Europe . Ca-na-da is that big country to your North..oh forget it. Sure, the hippo racing is every Tuesday night in Calgary. Come naked.
*
Q: Which direction is North in Canada ? (USA )
A: Face south and then turn 180 degrees. Contact us when you get here and we'll send the rest of the directions.
*
Q: Can I bring cutlery into Canada ? (England )
A: Why? Just use your fingers like we do.
*
Q: Can you send me the Vienna Boys' Choir schedule? (USA )
A: Aus-tri-a is that quaint little country bordering Ger-man-y, which is...oh forget it. Sure, the Vienna Boys Choir plays every Tuesday night in Vancouver and in Calgary , right after the hippo races. Come naked.
*
Q: Do you have perfume in Canada ? (Germany )
A: No, we don't stink.
*
Q: I have developed a new product that is the fountain of youth. Can you sell it in Canada ?(USA )
A: Anywhere significant numbers of Americans gather.
*
Q: Can you tell me the regions in British Columbia where the female population is smaller than the male population? (Italy )
A: Yes, gay nightclubs
*
Q: Do you celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada ? (USA )
A: Only at Thanksgiving.
*
Q: Are there supermarkets in Toronto and is milk available all year round? (Germany )
A: No, we are a peaceful nation of Vegan hunter/gathers. Milk is illegal.
*
Q: I have a question about a famous animal in Canada , but I forget its name. It's a kind of big horse with horns. (USA )
A: It's called a Moose. They are tall and very violent. They roam the city streets eating the brains of anyone walking close to them. Spraying yourself with human urine before you go out walking will scare them off.
*
Q: Will I be able to speak English most places I go? (USA )
A: Yes, but you will have to learn it first.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

Yesterday I watched a documentary film that
premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 before its release by Sony Pictures to critical acclaim.
*
*
From The New York Times:
*
"A murder mystery, a call to arms and an effective inducement to rage, *Who Killed the Electric Car?* is the latest and one of the more successful additions to the growing ranks of issue-oriented documentaries."
*
The film is available to watch on Google video.
*
Caution it takes one and a half hours to view.
*
If you have not seen this film please take 90 minutes of your time to watch it and if you are like me, you will be glad that you did.

Metric Conversions

From time to time, small issues arise among our Canadian, European and American Bloggers because of the fact that the USA uses largely Imperial units of measure, while the rest of the world (mostly) is on the metric system.

Some of the following may prove useful for those who are challenged by the conversion process.

Useful Imperial/Metric Conversions:

Ratio of an igloo’s circumference to its diameter - Eskimo Pi

2.4 statute miles of intravenous surgical tubing at Yale University - 1 I.V. League

2,000 pounds of Chinese soup - Won Ton

1 millionth mouthwash - 1 microscope

Speed of a tortoise breaking the sound barrier - Mach turtle

Time it takes to sail 220 yards at 1 nautical mile per hour - Knot Furlong

365.25 days of drinking low-calorie beer because it’s less filling - 1 Lite Year

16.5 feet in the Twilight Zone - 1 Rod Serling

Half of a large intestine - 1 semicolon

1,000 aches - 1 megahertz

Weight an evangelist carries with God - 1 billigram

Basic unit of laryngitis - 1 hoarsepower

Shortest distance between two jokes - a straight line

Time between slipping on a peel and smacking the pavement - 1 bananosecond

A half bathroom - 1 demijohn

453.6 graham crackers - 1 pound cake

1 million microphones - 1 megaphone

1 million bicycles - one megacycle

2,000 mockingbirds - two kilomockingbirds

ABC Wednesday--Z

Z is for ZZZZ's
*
Zackary the Teddy Bear is fast asleep in his blue striped pajamas and is snoring.
ZZZZZZZZZZZ

*
ZZZZZZZZZZZ
*
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
*
ZZZZZZZZZZZ
*
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
*
Yes it is ABC Wednesday over at Mrs. Nesbitt's place.
Just head over there to learn how to particapate.
*
*
Here in Canada we pronounce the letter Z as ZED.
*
In the United States it is pronounced ZEE.
*
However it is pronounced, when you see a string of ZZZZ's the impression that you get is that snoring is involved.
*
That is because ZZZZ's is an onomatopoeia for snoring.
*
From Wickepedia:
"Onomatopoeia is a word or a grouping of words that imitates the sound it is describing, suggesting its source object such as "click," "bunk", "clang," "buzz," "bang," or animal noises such as "oink", "slurp", or "meow".
*
*
Whatever it describes, when I hear the sound of ZZZZZ's I know my husband is snoring and someone (him) is going to get poked in the rib cage.
*
ZZZZZZZZZ

Night All.

If Teddy Bears Ruled the World

Oh my, what a wonderful place.
Everyone would be happy.
There would be a smile on every face.
We would picnic every Sunday
*
At our favorite old oak tree.
We would sing and dance and prance about,
Just playing joyfully.
We would all be nice to each other
And always lend a hand.
Ready with a bear hug,
We would always understand.
We would all be happy when something nice
Happened for one of our friends
And our friendships would last forever.
Nothing would cause them to end.
We would be kind to everyone,
Not just those in our own home,
But to everyone throughout our world,
Wherever we may roam.
Yes, if teddy bears ruled the world,
What a wonderful life this would be.
Our hearts would always be happy
As we danced by the old oak tree.

The Magic of Poetry

The definition of poetry:
*
"The art or work of a poet."
*
*
Yesterday I had the pleasure to read a poem written by a true artist.
*
The beauty and magic of her poetry is awe inspiring.
*
*
For the second time in less than two weeks, she has written a poem for me.
*
Her first poem that she wrote for me can be found here.
*
*
This kind lady read my post about how my Teddy Bear collection started.
*
With her wonderful artistic talent, she has penned a magical poem that brings tears to my eyes every time I read it.
Everyone please visit her blog and read her fantastic poems.
*
Brenda of Rinkly Rimes; you are an artist, a magician of words and a true inspiration to us all.

Thank You again from the bottom of my heart.

Facial Creams and Lotions

A husband and wife are shopping at the market when the man picks up a case of beer and sticks it into their cart.
*
“What do you think you're doing?” asks the wife.
*
"They're on sale, only $25 for a case,” he says.
*
“Put them back. We can't afford it,” says the wife and so they carry on shopping.
*
A few aisles later the woman picks up a $50 bottle of facial lotion and places it into the cart.
*
“What do you think you're doing?” asks the man.
*
“It's my facial lotion. It makes me look beautiful,” she says.
*
The man replies, “So do 24 bottles of beer and they’re half the price!”
*
*
*
If any of you women are like me, you have many jars and bottles of facial creams and lotions sitting on your bathroom counter that you have bought because you believed all the hype that was promoted about them.
*
"Purchase *X* brand and your wrinkles will disappear, *Y* brand promises to give you back the youthful skin you used to have" etc. etc. ad nauseum.
*
Who to believe and is it all just a marketing ploy?
*
Well I have to admit that I am someone who used to believe in all the hype and marketing that the cosmetics industry was targetting to us women of a *certain age*.
And then I read Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me by Paula Begoun .
*
This book is an eye-opener and should be considered as a *MUST READ* for every woman who has spent hundreds if not thousands of dollars on any *miracle facial creams or lotions.*
*
I can honestly recommend either purchasing this book or borrowing it from your local library before you spend another dollar on the latest *miracle cream or lotion.*

ABC Wednesday--Y

Yogi Bear and his friend Boo Boo
sport green pork-pie hats and ties.
*
As we all know, Yogi is
"smarter than the average bear."
*
Yogi Bear was named after
New York Yankee
player and manager Yogi Berra.
*
*
*
Yes, it is ABC Wednesday over at Mrs. Nesbitt's place.
Just head over there to learn how to participate.
******************
******************
Yogi Bear’s personality was loosely modeled after Art Carney’s Ed Norton character on “The Honeymooners.”
That is the reason why Yogi's hat is similar to the hat that Ed Norton wore.
*
*
Originally created as a back-up segment on The Huckleberry Hound Show, Yogi Bear is one of the most popular Hanna-Barbera stars of all time, rivaled only by The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo.
*
*
Yogi Bear and Boo Boo originally appeared on the Huckleberry Hound Show in 1958 and by 1961 Yogi had his own show.
Yogi's voice was done by Daws Butler and Boo Boo's was done by Don Messick.
*
*
Yogi Bear lived in Jellystone National Park with his sidekick
Boo Boo, who served as Yogi's conscience.
Yogi Bear's ocassional girl-friend was Cindy Bear.
Yogi Bear's adventures mainly centered on his obsession with stealing picnic baskets and his ability to confound Ranger Smith.

Classic Children’s Stories

The comments I received yesterday from my post explaining how my collection of
Teddy Bears started, all said it was a very nice story.
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
This had me thinking about my favourite classic children’s stories that have carried on through the generations.
*
*
These were the books that I read to my children when they were young and that I now read to my grandsons when they are visiting.
*
*
Of course, everyone knows from reading my post from
ABC Wednesday-W , that the first classic I would choose
is "Winnie-the-Pooh" written by A.A. Milne and
illustrated by E.H. Shepard.
The first publication of this novel was in 1926.
*
*
Isadora from Budapest Daily Photo reminded me
of another classic children’s tale.
"The Velveteen Rabbit" or * How Toys Become Real *
is a children's novel written by Margery Williams
and illustrated by William Nicholson.
This book was first published in 1922.
It tells the story of a stuffed rabbit and his quest to become real through the love of his owner.
*
*
And then there is the classic “The Tortoise and the Hare,” one of Aesop’s Fables.
The fable is about a hare who one day ridiculed a slow-moving tortoise.
In response, the tortoise challenges the hare to a race.
*
*
My next favourite is "The Princess and the Pea" by Hans Christian Anderson.
This story was first published in 1835.
It is a fairy tale about a young woman whose claim to being a real princess is tested by placing a pea under her mattresses.
*
*
And finally I would choose “A Child’s Garden of Verses” which is a collection of poetry for children by Robert Louis Stevenson.
It first appeared in 1885 under the title "Penny Whistles."
It contains a collection of 65 poems with verses that are full of irony, wit and the fantasy of childhood imagination, and introduce for the first time the Land of Nod.
*
*
I think these five classics should be on the *must-read-list* for every parent and/or grandparent.
*
Does anyone care to add to the list with some of their favourites?

My Addiction

And how it all started.

This is a photo of the bear that started it all.
It is not the exact bear but that is what he looked like many years ago.

Santa Claus brought the bear to our son on his first Christmas.
He was hugged and loved for many years and was joined by a few other bear friends.

But little boys grow older and get interested in other things and poor bear and his friends sat in the corner of the boy’s bedroom, forgotten.

And then the unkindest thing happened when the boy put bear and his friends on a shelf in the bedroom closet.

Then the year of my son’s thirteenth Christmas, I decided to rescue poor bear.
His tummy fur was worn down with love, his ears drooped, his paw pads were ripped and dirty, his nose and mouth were half off and he was BLIND!

Now if we had been a rich family, I would have been able to afford to send bear to a real bear hospital.
But we were a young family with a soon to be teenager and a little sister so I decided to try to fix bear myself.

I replaced his paw pads with new suede pads from an old jacket that my husband was no longer wearing.
I re-embroidered his nose and mouth and gave bear back his sight.
With his new eyes; bear could see his bare, worn-out with love, tummy so I decided, since this was going to be a Christmas present, I would make a Santa coat that would cover his worn-out love spot.

And if you have a Santa coat, of course you must have the matching hat.
So bear got a special Santa hat that had holes for his ears to make them stand up straight and tall again.

Christmas morning arrived and bear was sitting proudly in front of the tree with a gift tag attached that said:
“To boy and his Family---From Santa Claus.”

And the rest as they say is history.

Bear doesn’t live here with me and all his other bear friends anymore because he got a new boy when my first grandson was born.
He has a special place in grandson’s room surrounded by many new friends.

And he is very happy and proud to be living with grandson and *especially* boy (again.)

Well it took a little bit of time but I have managed to whittle down the list to a manageable seven quirks.
Quirk--I like that word. (Hey maybe that could be my first thing? What do you think?---------- No?)
Okay, then here is the list.

1. I can not wear flip flops, aka thongs. Never. Ever. Ever. I can not stand having that y-shaped thin strap part of the shoe separating my toes. BLEGH!!

2. I have the world’s weakest fingernails. I have tried everything from calcium supplements to drinking gelatin –gag—nothing works. I admit to nail envy to anyone I see who has beautiful nails. Sob!!

3. I am geographically challenged. I get lost ALL the time. You should see me in a shopping mall. I’m really pathetic. It’s a miracle that I found my way out of the birth canal on my birthday without stopping and asking for directions.

4. Hello my name is Bear and I am a shopaholic.
I truly think they invented the Dollar store just for me.
Thank You to the gods of Dollarama.

5. My hair texture has changed many times in my life.
Hormones are the devil’s playground!
I was born with naturally curly hair.
Then came puberty (ROTFL) where I had wavy hair.
Then came marriage with a baby carriage and my hair went almost straight except for that one patch of sheep’s wool at the back of my head. And then came MENOPAUSE——(ROTFLMAO)
and now I have—-drum roll please------
Fuzzy Wuzzy Chia Pet hair!

And that’s on a good day.

6. This January, 2008; I ate guacamole for the first time in my life.
OMG!!
Why didn’t anyone tell me that this was so tasty?
I am ready to give up my Canadian citizenship and move to Mexico right now.

7. Duh------------I collect Teddy Bears. ***

I am not going to tag anyone specifically, but if you want to leave your quirks (gosh, I really like that word) in the comments section, I promise I won’t laugh (much.)

Bear ((( )))

Happy 4th of July

To all my friends from the USA

Hope you have a wonderful Independence Day holiday.

Independence Day is a celebration of the history and government of the United States of America.

When you hear the term 4th of July or Independence Day, you immediately think of parades, barbeques, picnics and of course fireworks.

From Wikipedia:
“A firework is classified as a low explosive pyrotechnic device used primarily for aesthetic and entertainment purposes.
Display pyrotechnics, also known as commercial fireworks, are pyrotechnic devices intended for use outdoors.
The most common use of a firework is a part of a fireworks display.
A fireworks event (also called a fireworks show or pyrotechnics) is a display of the effects produced by fireworks devices.”

That sounds so technical doesn’t it?

To me the sounds of a fireworks show are:

Oohh, Aahh, Oohh!!

Enjoy your celebrations!

Thank You-Part Two

I have many fellow bloggers to thank today.

Yesterday, I received a beautiful artistic award from The Lehners in France.

And then, just a little later, I was awarded a Just Plain Fun to Read award from Daryl at Out and About in New York City.

Thank you both, I humbly accept these awards.

Also, Sue from 50 Something Blog for Boomers and Seniors mentioned one of my posts in her post about urinary incontinence. Thank you for recommending my post to your readers.

Brenda from Senior Stuff:Rinkly Rimes wrote a poem for me after I challenged her to write one using the letters I had to type for the word verification.
This lady is amazing. Everyone go visit her site and read her wonderful poems.

And last but definitely not least, one of the first people who started visiting my blog, Joy at The Joy of Six, honoured me by saying I was a great and unique friend. Thank you so much Joy, I will always remember your kind words. (And I was just kidding about my resemblance to a certain movie star—that was back when I was thirteen.)

And a big thank you to all the rest of my friends and readers who come to visit and leave your comments about my posts.

This blogosphere is a wonderful place; I think I will stay around for a long time.

ABC Wednesday--X

Xavier the Teddy Bear is
waiting patiently to be
delivered along with the tasty treats,
to his girlfriend, Xylona,
so he can give her
XO XO XO'S.

Yes it is ABC Wednesday over at Mrs. Nesbitt's place
Just head over there to learn how to participate.
******
So just why do we use XO XO XO to denote hugs and kisses.
*
According to Wikepedia:
*
"The use of XOXO goes back to the use of an X or cross, which was considered as good as a sworn oath in times before most people could write and therefore used the X in the same way a signature is used today — a mark of one's word.
An X at the end of a letter or document was often kissed as a seal of honesty, in much the same way one would kiss a Bible or kiss the fingers after making the sign of the Christian cross.
Thus the X came to represent a kiss in modern times.

The origins of the O as a hug are not generally known, although it is speculated that it may represent the arms wrapped around someone being hugged."
*
Whatever the origin is I am giving everyone I have met *here* in the blogosphere:
XO XO XO

Happy Canada Day

O Canada! Our home and native land!

True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide, O Canada,

we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

And of course here it is in French

The History of our National Anthem

O Canada" was proclaimed Canada's national anthem on July 1, 1980,
100 years after it was first sung on June 24, 1880.

The music was composed by Calixa Lavallée, a well-known composer;
French lyrics to accompany the music were written by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier.

The song gained steadily in popularity.
Many English versions have appeared over the years.

The version on which the official English lyrics are based was written in 1908 by Mr. Justice Robert Stanley Weir.
The official English version includes changes recommended in 1968 by a Special Joint Committee of the Senate and House of Commons.

The French lyrics remain unaltered.

Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians.
